A band of footballing friends will be living the dream when they take their skills into the hallowed arena of Wembley Stadium.

The Real Foxes are the Norwich- based team who have proved themselves to be region’s hottest shots in the ultra-competitive field of five-a-side.

Skills honed over five years of rugged battle in the small-sided format of the beautiful game have taken them into the final 28 of the 1200 teams that set out to make their mark on this season’s FA national Umbro Fives competition.

Captain Matty Walker, 30, said the Foxes were delighted to win through to Wembley, especially as they did it on home soil – in the regional final at the Norfolk FA’s Football Development Centre at Bowthorpe where they had also become Norfolk champions.

“Everyone was going crazy. Getting to Wembley is the biggest thing you can achieve in football.

“We’ll just go down there and do as well as we can. There will be some very good teams there but whatever happens we are determined to enjoy the experience.”

The lads are the first team from Norfolk to reach the Wembley final of the competition since 2008 and are now counting the days until Saturday, November 20 when it will be game on.

It promises to be a memorable experience as they will take the England team bus to the players’ entrance before making their way to the Wembley changing rooms. They will then watch the Wembley arch light up as they emerge from the tunnel and stand together for the national anthem.

Winners will take the Walk of Champions, to the Royal Box where they will receive the trophy before a champagne celebration on the pitch.

Matty added: “We have been playing together for over five years, although we have been friends and played football together for years before.

“We have won just about every league and tournament we have taken part in locally. We have won all of the local qualifying games for the national tournaments and travelled around to country to take part in them. This one tops them all as we have made it to the final at Wembley out of over 1200 teams across the country and we are in the last 28.”

The members of the team, sponsored by Fox Joinery, have links with weekend local football.

Defender Matty has turned out for Anglian Combination outfit St Andrews, as has defender Lee Maison and striker Danny Pennell. Striker Leon Brock and midfielder Jason Armes play for Marlborough Sunday.

Some of the players are not strangers to the big occasion as Matty, Lee and Jason have played in Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup finals at Carrow Road.

But Wembley Stadium promises to be as good as it gets.
