It's tipped to be the make-up event of 2010. As the search for the make-up artist of 2010 hots up, four make-up students from City College create the make-up looks of the future. BY EMMA HARROWING.
The look: Monochrome by Anton Jennings
Says Anton: “The look is an experimental take on classic black and white. My inspiration for the look is aliens. The eyes are heavily made up and are the focus of this look. Eyebrows are a thing of the past and lips are kept natural if a bit paler than usual. The base is flawless and shimmery.”
The look: Catwalk Colour by Jessica Harris
Says Jessica: “Clashing colours has been big news on the catwalk for the last few seasons and I think that this look will become a classic look in the future. The look is pretty with flawless skin, but is given a raw edge with clashing block colours on the eyes and lips. Sequins are also used on the lips to give the clashing colours look a bit of a futuristic twist.”
The look: Superheroes by Jo Dillan
Says Jo: “Superheroes inspired my futurist look. At the moment make-up is used to enhance natural features, but in the future it will be used as a mask. Instead of flawless skin the base will be shiny and metallic and eyes, cheeks and lips will be heavily made up with lots of colour and sequins to hide the natural colour.
The look: Artificial by Amy Watton
Says Amy: “As robots and computers are increasingly taking over our lives and cosmetic surgery becomes widely available the future of makeup will see us adopting an artificial look. The base looks like plastic and metal plates look like they are coming through the skin making it look like there is a robot underneath. Eyes are kept quite natural but eye lashes are big and full. Bright pink is used on the lip to create a splash of colour.”
Makeup Artist of the Year takes place at Epic Studios on May 2. The show will be streamed live online at www.eventdog.co.uk and on the BBC big screen in Chapelfield. If you want to be part of the audience tickets are on sale now. See www.eventdog .co.uk for more details.
