If you are expecting a baby there is no need to let go of your sense of style. Emma Harrowing shows you how to look good throughout your pregnancy without spending too much on clothes that you will not wear for long. All you need is a denim shirt…

Look 1: Over a floral/art print dress If you have a floral or arty print empire line dress in your wardrobe you maybe able to continue wearing it throughout your pregnancy. Although your bump may make the dress too short, why not try wearing them over leggings or jeans, with a shorter length cardigan to balance the look. The addition of the denim shirt lengthens and streamlines the body by creating a vertical line which draws the eye down the body. Clare wears: Floral print dress, 40, Blooming Marvellous in Chapelfield; floral necklace, 15, Accessorise; corsage in hair, model's own and denim shirt, 15 (in sale), Red Herring at Debenhams.

Look 2: With leggings as a shirt dress Head to toe in one colour is more slimming than black trousers and a coloured top if it isn't worn correctly. Buttoning up the denim shirt and wearing it as a shirt dress will create a column of colour to lengthen the body. Here I teamed the shirt with black leggings, although if you wore denim jeggings it look will be more streamlined. Clare wears: black leggings, 17, Blooming Marvellous in Chapelfield; black and white striped scarf, Accessorise and denim shirt as before.

Look 3: With jeans and a white tee Boot cut or wider leg pregnancy jeans are a good investment. As the bump grows the wider leg will balance you. Skinny jeans will make you look out of proportion and top heavy as if you are going to fall over. The white vest top and the denim shirt worn open like a jacket creates that vertical line which will make you appear taller and slimmer. Clare wears: Jeans, 25 and white vest top, 12, both from Blooming Marvellous in Chapelfield; blue animal print scarf (worn as a belt) and floral and silver bangles, all from Accessorise; black patent gladiator sandals in a wide fitting, ??, Van Dal available at Jarrold; denim shirt as before.

Look 4: With shorts Shorts are big this summer and these city style shorts can be dressed up or down. Teamed with a nautical striped T. shirt and with the denim shirt tied above your bump will give you a stylish casual look. Clare wears: Shorts, 28, Pumpkin Patch in Chapelfield; stripy T. Shirt, 16, Blooming Marvellous in Chapelfield; nautical necklace from Accessorise and denim shirt as before.

Look 5: With a casual shirt dress Wearing two shirts at the same time might seem daft, but the layered look is very much on the fashion radar at the moment, plus layering is great when you are expecting a baby and you are more sensitive to cold and heat. Here a simple light denim shirt dress is given an updated look with the dark denim shirt. Tied above the bump creates the illusion of a short jacket. The pop of pink colour from the necklace gives this a modern look. Clare wears: Light blue shirt dress, 28, Blooming Marvellous in Chapelfield; pink beaded necklace from Accessorise, gladiators and denim shirt as before.
