It was a night to remember when the Parkside boys who cut a dash in Norwich of the swinging 60s met up again.

Friendships forged on the playing fields of Norwich back in the swinging 60s were rekindled at a grand reunion for members of one of the best loved football clubs in the city.

The proud members of Parkside were finally back on parade.

More than 90 people turned up to celebrate the golden anniversary of this legendary old football club. They came from Norwich, Norfolk, the rest of the country – and around the world.

Former striker and crowd pleaser David 'Benny' Bennett, made it home from Canada where he has lived for many years.

'We had a really good night' said Barry Varnon, who organised the reunion along with Peter Hague and Keith Noller.

'There was a lot of catching up to be done. People had travelled far and wide and we were well looked after at Costessey Park Gold Club,' he added.

Among the guests was Ray Kiddell, who was secretary of the Sunday League when Parkside started in 1962, and Alan Williams, who was secretary of the league when they finished in 1984.

It was in April of '62 when a group of lads who spent every minute of their spare time playing football on Eaton Park. They decided to enter a team in the Norwich and District League – Parkside had arrived.

They were considered one of the most stylish sides around and their games against the all-conquering Loke United attracted crowds of getting on for 1,000.

Benny Bennett scored no fewer than 119 goals in 114 matches before leaving his job at Jarrold's and heading off to Canada, where he become a history lecturer.

Parkside packed it in at the end of the 1983/4 season... but the memories live on.
