The search is on for the girls who went to Lonsdale in Norwich, a school with such a proud and long history.

The school closed almost a quarter of a century ago but the bond of friendship between the former pupils is getting stronger as time goes by.

A couple of years ago a new committee was formed to help reunite all the former pupils at Lonsdale in Norwich which had been one of the oldest schools for girls in the land.

Since then the annual reunions in the city have got more and more popular with Lonsdalians coming back to the city from all over this country and across the world.

The independent school for girls started up in West Pottergate back in 1823 before moving to Earlham Road in 1895 – the buildings are now homes.

The school closed, amid much anger in 1988 after a long and proud history but the memories live on.

The next reunion will be a lunch at the Oaklands Hotel on Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrew, on Saturday, November 10.

'We would love to see as many people as possible,' said reunion committee member Pamela Dickerson, who said they were always searching for girls who hadn't been to the gatherings. 'There will be a special table for the ladies who attended the school in the 1930s. They are the young-at-heart 90-somethings and are just amazing. One of them will be nearly 97,' she said.

'And there is also a lot of interest in the reunion from the younger former Lonsdalians who keep in touch on their Lonsdale Facebook, adding a new updated approach in keeping the spirit of the old school alive,' she added. 'The old uniforms are always a sight to behold and a selection will be displayed at the reunion, some dating back to the 1940s, plus the memorabilia table with many folders of archive photographs, documents and brochures,' said Pamela, who runs Tudor Galleries in Norwich.
