Daniel O'Donnell has narrated a charity CD remembering the late, great Roy Waller of Radio Norfolk

Almost two years after his death, a special CD honouring the "voice of Norfolk," Roy Waller, has gone on sale to raise money for the Liver Research Department at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

"I have always felt the need to say thank you to Addenbrooke's where Roy spent a number of weeks, and where they tried so hard to save him," said his widow Sylvie.

Now, a number of people have come together to produce An Ode to Roy Waller, a fitting tribute to the much-loved Radio Norfolk presenter and former Sheriff of Norwich. It has been written by Pierce Arnopp. The music has been composed and played by Alan Cannell. The artwork is by Mervyn J Futter and the narration is by the one and only Irish crooner Daniel O'Donnell.

Roy helped so many singers and performers along the way, and now some of them have come together to make sure he will always be remembered.

"After Roy died, the many thousands of pounds from the funeral service at Norwich Cathedral, donations people sent, plus the money from the sell-out concert at Searles Holiday Village in Hunstanton, was sent to the British Liver Research Foundation," said Sylvie.

"Now I am so pleased I am able to do something to help Addenbrooke's where they looked after Roy so well," she added.

His death at the age of 69 on July 6, 2010, cast a shadow over Norfolk. He was a friend to thousands of Radio Norfolk listeners, who had never met him but loved him, via the airwaves.

Norwich born and bred Roy, a Mile Cross boy, went to the Norman School and worked for an estate agent, Norwich Union and then the AA – but it was his travel reports on the Radio Norfolk which led to a career in broadcasting. He became a commentator at Norwich City, following the fortunes of his beloved Canaries, through good and bad times. And his audience grew. That led to his daily shows and his Saturday morning Rodeo Norfolk programme, specialising in country music. Roy gave so many musicians and entertainers the kick-start they needed to launch their careers. His greatest honour came in 2008/9 when he was made Sheriff of Norwich. "I am so very proud to represent the city I loved. My city," he said.Norwich Cathedral was packed for a "celebration of his life" in July of 2010, when tributes came from former Norwich City chairman Robert Chase, Norwich City Council civic attendant Gavin Thorpe, country music singer Mervyn J Futter and Radio Norfolk editor David Clayton.

Roy was a man who will never be forgotten.
