The Evening News and Angling Direct are hitting the ground running for the start of the coarse fishing season from midnight tonight by teaming up to launch a new competition which offers prizes for youR catches.
Legions of rodmen, women and children have an extra incentive to pursue the fishes of their dreams from now onwards for the monthly winner will reel in £100 worth of tackle vouchers, with a £50 prize for the best under 16 entry.
At the end of the season our team of highly-experienced and shrewd judges from the Aylsham Road store will announce an overall winner, who will land the prestigious trophy and £250 worth of vouchers.
The Evening News Angling Direct Specimen Catch contest is a new and improved version of the popular Evening News Silver Fish competition which ran for several years and involved the former Sprowston Road-based Norwich Angling Centre which became part of the Angling Direct group.
This competition will once again focus on specimen fish but unlike previously will not use percentage of the UK record weight as the chief guideline.
Each catch will be treated on merit, with a range of factors taken into account, such as the species, venue, tactics and circumstances surrounding the catch.
Although the competition will run from the start of the coarse season until its end next March, all species of fish – coarse, sea and game are eligible.
All catches must be made on a Norfolk water or off the Norfolk coast.
All entries must include a usable picture of the fish with captor and include details of the species, weight, venue, date and time of catch and, brief details of tactics. The name, age and contact details of the captor along with contact details of someone who can vouch for the catch must be included.
Andy Flint, Angling Direct’s Aylsham Road, Norwich branch manager, commented: “It’s great that we are able to award something back to local anglers who want to share their successful catches with us.”
He added: “It’s great to be in touch with all types of local anglers who will be able to enter our monthly contest.
“We have changed the structure slightly now and will be awarding each month’s prizes based on merit.
“There will be more focus on the venue, methods, and it won’t be all about the size of the fish.”
Evening News sports journalist Milton Lindsay, the competition co-ordinator, and a keen angler himself, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Angling Direct who are offering some excellent prizes which I am sure will encourage plenty of healthy competition. We all know what a wonderful county Norfolk is for fishing with endless opportunities for myriad specimen fish and I look forward to seeing further pictorial evidence. Remember the competition could just as easily be won by a specimen bass or dace as a carp.”
All entries must be submitted to email@example.com
