Youngsters at Crusaders are getting very excited after sealing the chance to play on the pitch at Welford Road, the home of Aviva Premiership giants Leicester Tigers.

Crusaders sent 22 boys and girls from their under-10 squad to Diss for the regional round of the Prima Tiger Cup earlier this month, the first time the Little Melton-based club have entered the competition.

As well as winning four of their five games, points are awarded based on the sportsmanship of coaches, players and parents, and Crusaders finished top of the group. They will now take part in the quarter-finals at Welford Road, played ahead of Leicester's game against Worcester on Saturday, November 25.

Martin Alcock, director of youth rugby for Crusaders, said: 'We took all our U10s to the tournament as enjoyment and inclusivity is the ethos we have always upheld. The U10s were over the moon when we told them and we made a real party occasion of it.

'We are going to take a coach full of friends, family and club members to Leicester to watch them. The memories and experiences events like this create are immeasurable in terms of value – one parent told me that rugby has totally changed her son's outlook, attitude and focus in life.

'This has always been my aim in creating a youth system that drives these qualities.'
