Norfolk's Amelia Williamson completed a record equalling hat-trick at the 40th English Schools' Golf Association National Championships at The Kendleshire Club in Bristol.

Representing Norwich High School for Girls and Royal Cromer, Amelia rounded off a busy spell by making it three successive wins in the competition, just three days after her 17th birthday.

Rounds of 71 and 68 for a five under par total of 139 gave her a one shot victory over Devon's Chloe Howard, who had the consolation of setting a course record with her second round 67.

Amelia equalled the record of Northumberland's Janet Soulsby, winner of the first three championships in 1979, 1980 and 1981. Her round of 68 in the afternoon included an eagle and five birdies.

Amy Taylor (Wymondham College and Bawburgh Golf Club) came seventh with scores of 73 and 77 for a 150 while Chloe Gibbs of Broadland High and Royal Norwich Golf Club finished in the middle of the field. However she had a moment to remember the competition by when she holed a 110 yard wedge for an eagle two at the 18th hole in her morning round. It was a brilliant effort on a tough hole with a large water hazard on the right hand side and a green that slopes towards the pond.

Both Amelia and Amy will represent England Schools in the international against Scotland being held at Troon Darley and Lochgreen Golf Clubs in September and Amelia will also play in the international against Wales at Luffenham Heath in August.

Amelia has another big date in a packed diary, with the European girls' team championship coming up in Finland next month.

She has been named in England's team at St Laurence Golf from July 11-15.

The other players in the team are Sammy Fuller (Surrey), Lily May Humphreys (Essex), Hollie Muse (Lancashire), Emily Price (Worcestershire) and Bel Wardle (Cheshire).

The boys' event at The Kendleshire was won by Matthew Green from Essex who went round in level par 71 in the morning and then added a 70 in the afternoon for a one under par 141. This gave him a one shot winning margin over Harry Bowness from Gloucestershire.
