Coventry striker Michael Mifsud could be up for grabs at a knock-down price - if Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder is still interested.

After the collapse of Mifsud's proposed £1.5m move to Bristol City, Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has also ruled out any thought of a bid for the Malta international.

It would leave the coast clear for Roeder, still aiming to bring in two new strikers, to move in for the 27-year-old if he wishes.

Palace and the Canaries were both reported to have inquired about Mifsud early last week, but Warnock flatly rejected the idea when he said: “I've had no interest in him whatsoever - I never have and I never will.”

Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman now faces a dilemma after missing out on a big cash boost.

He said: “It's very unfortunate for all parties concerned that a deal could not be done. But we have done our part in granting Michael's transfer request so now it is up to him.”

Coleman must decide whether to welcome an unhappy player back into his squad or possibly accept a lower offer for Mifsud in order to offload him.

Roeder said during City's tour of Sweden that he was an admirer of Mifsud, but would not confirm reports of an inquiry.

He said at the time: “He's a very good player, excellent player. I first came across Michael when he played for Lillestrom and I was manager at Newcastle and we played them in the Intertoto Cup. It was early in the season, I think it was our first game of the season in the Intertoto. He caused us a lot of problems and I'm not surprised he did well for Coventry. Other than that, I can't say anything about him.

“There's speculation every day about this player and that player this time of the year going to this club and that club. I couldn't expand any more on the fact that I think he proved last year he's an excellent player, small stature but a good goalscorer.”

The move to Ashton Gate fell through when Mifsud's agent and lawyer attempted to renegotiate the personal terms of a deal that would have reunited him with former Coventry former team-mate Dele Adebola.

Robins boss Gary Johnson called off the deal and slammed Mifsud's “unprofessional and disrespectful” behaviour.
