Bungay Town remain in charge at top of the table after win over Stalham
Bungay Town Ladies consolidated their position at the top of Division One of the Norfolk Women's and Girls' Football League with an 8-0 win at Stalham Town Ladies.
Bungay made it seven wins from eight matches with an authoritative display and keep the gap to second-placed Sprowston at five points.
Sprowston, who have played a game fewer than Bungay, stayed in touch with the leaders with a 4-1 win at home against Fakenham Town Ladies. Victoria Leyer, Rebecca Russell, Nicole Smith and Abbi Nobbs got the goals.
Gorleston gained their second win of the season with a 2-1 win at North Walsham Ladies courtesy of goals from Samantha Hunn and Molly Sims.
A double hat-trick from Sophie Fuller helped Tavern Ladies to all three points against Gorleston Rangers Ladies. Lucy Kean and Meganne Carmichael also got in on the act with braces apiece whilst Emily Bell and Katie Hart-Copsey were also on the scoresheet. Abigail Bell and Zoe Waite scored consolation goals for Rangers.
The win kept Tavern Ladies in third place in the table, two points off second-placed Beccles Town Ladies, who have played a game fewer.
Freethorpe gained their third win of the campaign as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Toftwood United Ladies. Kiera Squires was at the double for Freethorpe whilst Eden Simmonds was also on the scoresheet as Freethorpe closed the gap to fourth-placed Kirkley & Pakefield Ladies up to a single point.
There was a twist in the seven-a-side league title race as leaders Briston Wanderers Ladies crashed to defeat at Red Rose Ladies. Stacey High and Megan Skinner were on target for Briston but it wasn’t enough to stop their side slipping to defeat.
Briston remain top of the division but are only a point above Costessey Sports Ladies, who have won all of their seven games so far this season. It all sets up an exciting top-of-the-table clash this weekend when Briston travel to Costessey in a match that could go a long way to deciding the title.
The other match in the seven-a-side league saw Morley Ladies and Harleston Town Ladies fight out a 0-0 draw.
