The annual prize giving and Christmas party of Norwich Canoe Club was attended by nearly 150 members family and friends of the club.

The evening commenced with awards to members who have achieved outstanding performances during 2009 in their age group and gender category. Top boys were Ryan Ellis in sprint and Dean Terry in marathon, and in the girls, Lucy Lee-Smith and Emily Nelson took the awards in sprint and marathon respectively. Stacey Terry won the junior girls Hasler trophy for accumulating the most points in the season in the series of Hasler Marathon races. Joe Rix won the corresponding junior boy's award, Fiona Grady the senior ladies prize and Gavin Rix took the senior men's trophy. The club's “Most Improved Paddler” was won by Ashley Nobbs and the “Best First Year Paddler” was won by young Daniel Hunt.

Prize winners were congratulated by the new club chairman, Dean Grady who also thanked the strong team of club coaching staff led by Dyson Pendle and all the volunteer helpers and parents who have helped the club to their most successful year to date.

The prize giving was followed by a pantomime performance by the junior members, in which entertaining incidents from the years activities were built into a traditional pantomime story with hilarious results. This was enjoyed tremendously by the other members and was followed by a grand gastronomic spread and family party games to round off a superb evening.
