Mundford Cricket Club have launched a recruitment drive as they prepare for a landmark season.

The 2018 campaign will mark the club’s 60th anniversary and officials are aiming to make it one to remember, both and an off the pitch.

“We have already begun planning our 2018 season, although it seems crazy with snow on the ground recently!” said second team skipper Carl Pryke.

“We are hoping to mark the anniversary with a special game as well as some sort of function while we are also keen to try and attract more people into playing cricket, whatever their standard.

“I joined the club a couple of years ago when I was new to the village and was made to feel really welcome. It is a great club to be involved in.

“Last season we introduced a number of people to the game who had never played before and one is now vice-captain of the second team, which highlights our all inclusive and welcoming values.

“We will be beginning our indoor nets in the New Year and are trying to get the word out. It is a big year for the club and we are doing all we can to try and make it a memorable one.”

Last season Mundford’s first team finished bottom of Norfolk Alliance Division Four and will be aiming to regroup in Division Five next season.

“With good youngsters coming through and two or three players returning to the club in 2018, we are positive about the season ahead,” said skipper Chris Brown.

The second team, which places an emphasis on introducing and developing younger players as well as new players coming into the game, will again play in Division 4NW of the Norfolk League after finishing second from bottom this year.

“With the seconds it is all about development and it was pleasing that we got a few wins along the way,” said Pryke.

The Sunday XI will be aiming to build on a good season in Derek Cousins Division Two of the Mid Norfolk League which saw them finish second while the club also has an over-40s team alongside neighbours Gooderstone and three youth teams.
