Fakenham got back to winning ways with a hard-fought win in a match played in driving rain from the start.

The hosts went ahead after only two minutes when Lloyd Marshall, who again kicked superbly all game, nudged a penalty into the corner.

The lineout was taken by Adam Lingwood who popped it off the top to veteran scrum-half Paul Richardson. His pass hit Tom Bane-Young, who broke through the line and passed to Murray Tindal to score a try that was converted by Marshall.

For the next 30 minutes Fakenham put Thetford under constant pressure but were kept out by some brave defence.

Thetford eventually cleared their lines, resulting in a penalty under the posts. They opted for a scrum and slick handling saw them rewarded with a try in the corner.

The second half was much more even, but eventually Fakenham stretched their lead when a kick was charged down and Howard Kellock went over for a try converted by Marshall.

Two more tries for Fakenham followed, both for Tindal, and a final effort from Thetford gave them their second try in the last minute.

The Norfolk Brewhouse man of the match was awarded to Tindal who was tireless in both defence and attack throughout the full 80 minutes.

In the same section Wymondham beat Thurston 51-17 in the final league match to be staged at Tuttles Lane before the switch to their new base at Barnard Fields.

The Red and Blacks got their noses in front after just five minutes when Jamie Hunter touched down and further tries from Tom Masters and Chris Collins Read put them firmly in charge at half-time.

Masters added his second just after the break from a rolling maul and despite a brave effort from Thurston Wymondham continued to pull away, with a try from David Blake a minute from time completing the scoring.

The home forwards were on the front foot all afternoon, working good set-piece for the backs, as Wymondham moved level on points with leaders Holt, who were without a game.
