A city school is set to host its own Paralympic Games after winning a cash injection of more than £7,300.

Sewell Park College was one of 125 schools from across England and one of four in Norfolk to win the grant from the Plan your 2012 scheme.

The initiative, which is funded by the Department of Education and delivered by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog), gives schools the chance to share their passion for the Games and to inspire and engage other schools, young people and building partnerships across their community.

Sewell Park College, which is a member of the Get Set network, will now host two Paralympic days in March.

The event will see pupils from the St Clements Hill school and youngsters from primary schools in the surrounding area take
part in a wide range of Paralympic sports including sitting volleyball, goalball, wheelchair basketball and boccia.

Sam MacGibbon, school sports coordinator, said: “With it being the Olympics, you want to get involved as much as you can.

“Being part of the Get Set network is a prestigious thing for the school to have and I know our pupils will enjoy having a go at the Paralympic sports – it’s something they have not experienced before and it links in with the values of the Games, such as equality and understanding.”

The school’s Paralympic days will be held on March 15 and 16.

Paralympic shotputter Danny Nobbs will attend the event and the school will also host its own Olympic Torch Relay with the torch from the 1948 London Games.
