Norfolk diver Rosy May Trewin Marshall established herself as a national force to be reckoned with last weekend when she officially rose into the top 10 on all three high dive boards.

The National Age Groups Championships in Sheffield saw Trewin Marshall, who attends Town Close House School in Norwich – but has to travel hundreds of miles every week to train with the Cambridge Dive Team – competing with the best in the country at her age group.

A total of 37 girls from across the country descended on the International Aquatic Centre at Ponds Forge for three days of competition on the one-metre and 3m springboards, plus the platform – 5m or 7.5m.

The group included the most highly skilled and talented divers, with the 2011 standard as high as it has ever been – making for a frighteningly relentless and unforgiving competition.

However, Trewin Marshall was not daunted. She took sixth on the 3m springboard, ninth on the 5m platform and 10th on the 1m springboard.

The 1m event had all the makings of a disaster for Trewin Marshall. After a strong start she made a momentary error, performed a poor second dive and plunged to 23rd.

However, she turned it round in style to regain her concentration and deliver a top 10 finish.

Coach Sam Buck said: “It was a really strong performance from Rosy May. It looked bad for her after that second dive but it was fantastic that she was able to shake off the nerves and climb back up so many places.

“It proves what a determined diver she is and what a cool head she has.”

Trewin Marshall is now straight back into heavy duty training, preparing for an international competition in Barcelona in two weeks.
