Wycombe are in high spirits ahead of Tuesday night's Carabao Cup third round clash with Norwich City.

Joe Jacobson's late penalty grabbed a point away to high-flying Portsmouth in League One on Saturday, extending the Chairboys' solid start after promotion to the third tier.

Jacobson converted the spot-kick in the 89th minute just three minutes after Pompey had completed their comeback to take the lead, leaving Gareth Ainsworth's side 18th in the table.

'We've lost one in nine now and it's a great run to be on,' the Wycombe boss told BBC Three Counties.

'I said I want to stop the draws but I'll take a draw today because that's a really good point against a fantastic team, lot of respect for Kenny Jackett and Joe Gallen, what they're doing here, they've got a real good team and I expect them to be around the top of the table when the season ends.

'But if we keep performing like that I don't expect us to be at the bottom either so I'm really pleased.'

Wycombe beat League Two sides Northampton and Forest Green on penalties to set up the tie against the Canaries in the third round.

While their form has been respectable, they have only won once in the league, so the draw away to promotion hopefuls Portsmouth was a big boost.

'I'm super proud of the boys, super proud,' Ainsworth said. 'They've given me everything, absolutely everything and not many teams will come here and do that.

'Teams will come here and try to park the bus to try and get something but that's not my style, we wanted to test what we've got.

'We're Wycombe Wanderers in League One and days like this are special for us so we gave it a right go and I thought we deserved the goal, we played well in the first half and up until 70 minutes the teams were very well matched.

'Then they've had a 10-minute spell, when the wind is with them, with 5,000 fans around that goal and it's an absolutely unbelievable place to come and defend that goal.'
