International action begins for two Norwich City players tonight when Scotland take on Canada in Edinburgh.

Canaries duo Russell Martin and Steven Naismith are both in Gordon Strachan's squad for the friendly at Easter Road (7.45pm kick-off), ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Hampden Park on Sunday (7.45pm).

Naismith hasn't played for his country since a 3-0 friendly defeat in France last summer but is hoping to press his claims to be involved in the World Cup qualifiers when the Scots take on the world's 117th ranked team this evening.

Scotland, ranked 67th, have made a stuttering start to Group F qualifying, winning 5-1 in Malta but drawing at home to Lithuania and losing 3-0 in both Slovakia and England to leave themselves bottom of the group.

City captain Martin started three of those games before being dropped to the bench against England and will also look to press his claims, in a squad that features four uncapped players.

'The new guys in the squad, if they play, they will see it as an opportunity to say 'I'm here to stay',' Naismith said, featuring as a guest on the Official Scotland Podcast.

'Guys like myself who have not played many games recently for the national team, I've got to make sure the manager sees that I'm still worthy of being in the squad. It goes back to competition for places, if you're not performing you are not going to be in this squad eventually.

'That's what it is for players who have just come in and have maybe not had much game time for the manager recently. And, again, for the players that have been playing, it's for them to say 'I should be in the team for Sunday'.

'Obviously some of the results in the campaign haven't been what we wanted so I don't think anybody is sitting here saying 'I am playing on Sunday, I know I'm in the team because I have been good enough'.'

Another player to watch out for tonight is former Canaries winger Nathan Redmond, who has received his first England call-up ahead of tonight's friendly in Germany (7.45pm UK time) and Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Lithuania (5pm) at Wembley.

City keeper Michael McGovern and out-of-favour striker Kyle Lafferty are away with Northern Ireland ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Norway at Windsor Park on Sunday (7.45pm). Alex Tettey will not feature in that match for the visitors after announcing his international retirement recently.

Republic of Ireland host Wales in World Cup qualifying on Friday but will be without Canaries playmaker Wes Hoolahan, who has remained in Norfolk for treatment on a thigh injury picked up in Saturday's 2-0 win over Barnsley and isn't expected to feature in Tuesday's friendly with Iceland either.

Jacob Murphy is away though after receiving his first England Under-21 call-up, for friendlies in Germany on Friday (7pm) and Denmark on Monday (6pm).

Youssouf Mulumbu hasn't played in any of Norwich's last seven matches and hasn't travelled to Kenya with the Democratic Republic of Congo for a friendly on Sunday due to his fitness issues.

City defender Timm Klose also hasn't travelled after not being picked for Switzerland's home qualifier against Latvia on Saturday, although is on standby for the squad.
