It was Monday, April 25, 2011 and City’s unlikely promotion push was reaching a crescendo.

QPR were well on their way to securing the Championship title but Norwich and Cardiff were vying for the second automatic promotion place and neither was given an inch.

Simeon Jackson had given City the lead with a header at the end of the first half only for Steve Davis to equalise early in the second period.

Jackson restored the Canaries’ lead with a chipped effort before Alberto Bueno’s long-range effort pegged the home side back once more.

What followed was an excruciating half-hour.

City were losing hope when they won a corner in injury time. Henri Lansbury’s near post centre flicked off Wes Hoolahan to run into the path of Russell Martin at the far post.

Time stood still.

Martin’s driven effort was somehow cleared off the line only for the rebound to cannon off that man Jackson and trickle over the line.

Cue pandemonium.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Less than a week later Cardiff slipped up at home to Middlesbrough allowing City to secure promotion a few hours later thanks to Jackson’s winner at Portsmouth.
