Norwich City have confirmed that left-back Harry Toffolo has joined Championship rivals Millwall on a permanent deal.

Sky Sports had reported that Toffolo, who was out of contract this summer, would join the Lions on a free but with performance-related add-ons included in the deal.

City have now confirmed a permanent exit, with Millwall revealing his contract is just until the end of the season.

“It’s brilliant to sign – I can’t wait to get started,” Toffolo told millwallfc.co.uk.

“Every time I’ve played at The Den against Millwall, they’ve always been a great team to play against; very well-structured and I look forward to working with the manager and his group of players.

“Scott Barron is my agent, who is good friends with Neil Harris, and there’s been interest for a few years now. My name has been mentioned a lot and I’ve always wanted to come to Millwall. To have the opportunity to come here now is amazing.

“They’re a Championship club that are doing very well and I’m looking forward to getting going.

“To be able to call The Den ‘home’ for the next few months is fantastic. I can’t wait to get started. Any time I’ve played here the atmosphere has been electric and I’ve always wondered what it would be like being on the other side of the fence. Now I am, I can enjoy it and look forward to my first game.”

The 22-year-old was one of City’s FA Youth Cup winners in 2013 but has only made two senior appearances for the club, both in the League Cup.

Loan spells at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough and Scunthorpe were followed by a return to League One with Doncaster Rovers for the first half of this season.

However a broken foot brought an early end to that spell in December and Toffolo returned last week with two appearances for City’s under-23s.

The youngster had the one-year option in his contract activated by Norwich last summer but following the arrivals of James Husband and Marco Stiepermann was sent out on loan again.

With Jamal Lewis also making the breakthrough since then, Toffolo’s chances of getting a new contract this summer looked slim but it seems City have now moved to ensure they get some money from an academy product.

Originally from Hertfordshire, the full-back joined as an under-14 player in 2008 and also went on to be capped by England at under-18, U19 and U20 levels.

In total Toffolo has made 85 appearances in first-team football, the majority of which were for Swindon and Scunthorpe, with seven of those coming in the Championship for Rotherham during 2015-16.
