Declan Rudd is ready to knuckle down in his quest to help Charlton Athletic regain their Championship status.

The Norwich City keeper will look to play a pivotal role during the Addicks’ push for League One promotion after joining the club on a season-long loan. Having played at the level temporarily for Preston North End, Rudd knows what will be required for Athletic to stand a chance of bouncing back to the second tier at the first time of asking.

He said: “League One is hard work. It’s a graft. At times it’s just going to take getting your head down and doing the nasty things to come out with the results. You have to go to some really hard places and now there’s some really good players and teams in this league so it’s a really tough league.

“But from what I’ve seen we’ve got enough quality and togetherness here to get going and put a real good season together.”

The first test for the 25-year-old – who has been reunited with his former Norwich team-mate Andrew Crofts in London – arrives at Bury on Saturday.

Rudd also told the Addicks’ website: “Andrew sold Charlton well to me to be honest. To be fair before I spoke to him I’d sort of set my heart on coming here anyway so he just made my mind up for me and I’m just happy it’s done now.”
