Last month he saw Wes Hoolahan draw level with him in 16th place in Norwich City's all-time appearances list, so Daryl Sutch is thrilled to be making a Carrow Road return.

The former full-back is part of the Canaries legends team which is taking on Inter Forever in aid of the Community Sports Foundation at Carrow Road on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

Still living locally and working as an estate agent, Sutch was joined on 352 appearances by Hoolahan as the Irishman completed 10 seasons at City – and is happy to share 16th spot with the Irishman.

'He's been a fantastic servant for the club and it doesn't happen very often where one player stays at a club for such a long time any more,' the 46-year-old said.

'To have such a good game in his final game for the club was fantastic, okay his goal was deflected but he set up the second as well. A brilliant servant and he'll be much missed by the fans.'

The former England Under-21 international was still emerging as a youth product during City's Uefa Cup run of 1993, featuring as a substitute during both legs as Bayern Munich were knocked out, before starting the 1-0 home defeat to Inter Milan and coming on during the 1-0 loss at the San Siro.

'There was such a buzz,' Sutch recalled. 'The season before when we finished third, it was like 'we're playing in Europe!'. The first leg against Vitesse Arnhem, I didn't feature in either of those games, but we won 3-0 at home and then 0-0 away and it was brilliant, unbelievable stuff.

'Then the draw, waiting at Trowse, we drew Bayern Munich and we were all laughing and joking saying 'oh well, we're out', so there was no pressure on us.

'It was a team that was a team, everyone worked for each other, everyone knew each other's game really well and it all just worked. It was a good team spirit and work ethic that got us through, with good quality players, it was just a fantastic time.'

Sutch will be playing alongside team-mates including Bryan Gunn and Chris Sutton again.

'It doesn't seem like 25 years, it's unbelievable that time has passed,' he added. 'To come back on to the Carrow Road pitch with some of my old team-mates is going to be fantastic and just be a really good occasion, really looking forward to it.'

While in the other team will be the Inter legends including Francesco Toldo, Jurgen Klinsmann and Javier Zanetti.

'I started against Inter at home, it was fantastic,' Sutch continued. 'When we played Bayern it was coming up against international players and it was the same against Inter Milan, the likes of the up-and-coming Dennis Bergkamp, Ruben Sousa, some really talented players and Italian internationals – and obviously they went on to win the tournament that year.

'It's just fantastic to be involved in such a historic time for the club.'

However, the man who played for the Canaries between 1999 and 2003 admits Sunday's exhibition may challenge his fitness levels.

Asked if he keeps active, Sutch said: 'No! I don't do anything. I stopped playing in 2004, used to do a few little five-a-sides here and there, but not done anything at all and they're (Inter Forever) quite a well-drilled machine so they're going to be quite a challenging opposition to play against for sure.'
