Steven Whittaker is being targeted by old club Rangers following his Norwich City release.
The Scottish Sun reported on Friday the Ibrox giants have drawn up a list of potential summer recruits that includes the full-back as they bid to try and close the gap on Celtic.
Whittaker was one of seven players released by the Canaries at the end of the past season, but the 32-year-old also has offers on the table to stay in the Football League along with interest from Scotland.
The experienced defender had previously been touted with another of his old clubs north of the border, Hibernian, who have clinched promotion back to the Scottish top flight and his international colleague Russell Martin is sure his ex-room mate at Norwich will be a man in demand.
“I have spoken to Whitts about it quite a lot. He has a number of options, he has to weigh up what becomes more important to him now,” said the Norwich captain. “Does it become going home to Scotland with the family, is it trying to stay in England and play at the highest level he can possibly for another year or two? He is in great condition physically so that is not a problem. He could play in the Championship with his eyes shut for another year or two. Him and his family need to decide. If he can get two or three years back home in Scotland with pathways after that then he has to consider that.
“He is not short of offers. Whitts is the ultimate professional, but he will feel he hasn’t played enough in the last season or two.”
