There was a Norwich City connection in Northampton Town’s League Two play-off final victory over Exeter City last night.

The Cobblers sealed promotion to the third tier with a 4-0 thrashing of Exeter - with the Grecians suffering their third Wembley play-off final heartbreak in a row.

Northampton had a familiar City face in goal, with ex-Canaries youth product Steve Arnold keeping a clean sheet to help Keith Curle’s side gain promotion.

Arnold has represented numerous clubs since leaving City for Grays Athletic in 2008.

The keeper’s gone onto play for Stevenage, Dover and Shrewsbury Town before signing for the Cobblers last summer.

Arnold signed for the Canaries centre of excellence from Arsenal in 2005 and was named on the bench for the first-team on 11 occasions.

The emergence of Jed Steer and Declan Rudd saw Arnold fall down the pecking order before his release in 2008.

He has been largely a back-up keeper for Curle’s side this season, but an injury to first-choice keeper David Cornell prior to the play-off campaign has seen Arnold provided with an opportunity.
