Norwich City last night flatly rejected claims that they had agreed to sell skipper Grant Holt to Leicester City for £2m.
A report on the Mail Online website said Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson had targeted 30-year-old Holt after losing out in his bid to sign Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long from Reading.
It claimed a £2m fee was agreed and Holt would decide whether he wanted to move. But City chief executive David McNally said on Twitter last night: “Absolutely no truth in Daily Mail story saying we’ve accepted bid for Grant Holt from Leicester. Our captain’s not for sale.” There was no comment on whether Leicester had made a bid.
Double player of the season winner Holt signed a new three-year contract with the Canaries in April, running to 2014, and is preparing for his first taste of Premier League football.
He has scored 53 goals in 92 appearances in his first two seasons at Carrow Road since signing from Shrewsbury to help City to back-to-back promotions.
