Sebastien Bassong believes Norwich City are right to buck the football trend and back manager Alex Neil.
What’s more, the centre-back is certain that faith will be repaid over the coming weeks – starting with Brentford’s visit to Carrow Road on Saturday.
“In football the manager pays for players’ mistakes,” said Bassong, City having suffered a fifth successive league defeat at Derby last time out. “That’s how the football industry is, but I think it’s shown in the past that Norwich is a really clever, understanding club.
“The manager is the right man for the job. We went through a bad time but we are now on our way back up and the season is long. You know that, I know that, and in a couple off games we’re not going to be talking about it any more because I know in a couple of games things are going to be totally different, so I’ll see you there.
City dropped below the Championship’s top six for the first time since February 2015 at the weekend, but Bassong is still confident City will deliver an effective promotion bid this season.
“We will be up there fighting,” added the defender. “There’s no question about it. Be it belief or faith, it’s the main thing. I know talking about this (bad run) now is part of the game, and it’s fair.
“But mentally we are strong. We can get through this spell. It’s human, it’s normal. But the confidence is coming back up. Carrow Road in these kind of times is a great place to come back and get a run going.”
