Norwich City are offering one of the cheapest single matchday ticket for young adults in the top four tiers of English football, according to the BBC’s annual Price of Football Survey.

With under-18s charged as little as £3 for some matches at Carrow Road, City’s cheapest single matchday ticket of £3 is shown as the cheapest in the country – after producers of the annual survey asked clubs to provide ticket prices for young adults for the first time.

While the cheapest season ticket for young adults at Norwich of £239.50 is the seventh highest in the Championship, with only the £5 at Brentford and £7 at Bolton close to competing with City’s £3 ticket, available to members at category D matches.

At the other end of that scale, the Canaries charge under-18s £25 for grade A+ games to season ticket holders and non-members and £23 for members – with membership costing £25.

The highest in the Championship is at Sunderland, where the lowest price for a young adult’s single ticket (16-21 years) is £22, just ahead of £21 at Leeds

The cheapest young adult season ticket is at Cardiff City (£99) and the club which charges the most in that category are Leeds at £316, ahead of Middlesbrough (£300) and Fulham (£299).

Another factor considered is the price of replica shirts.

The price of City’s junior shirt has risen from the second-cheapest in the division last season at £28, to £35. Only five clubs offer a cheaper junior shirt though, with Sheffield Wednesday’s the cheapest at £25.

The most expensive junior shirts are £45 at Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, which was the price Wednesday had charged last year to rank as the most expensive.

With around 3,000 of City’s 21,700 season ticket holders understood to be in the youth categories, the challenge of encouraging younger people to attend games is a regular issue for Carrow Road bosses to consider in an area with an ageing demographic.
