Norwich City’s players are ready to stand up to the physical challenges which await in the Championship.

Adam Idah came off the bench to score the crucial goal at Huddersfield on the opening weekend, scoring his first league goal for the Canaries, and was ready for the physicality.

“The boys told me, knowing that I hadn’t played in the Championship before, that it is tough,” the 19-year-old said.

“As we saw, the game was 50-50 and lucky enough towards the end we had that little bit more energy to keep going.

“It is quite tough but I think everyone is raring and ready to go.”

The newly capped Republic of Ireland international put his actions into words as well, taking a yellow card for the team during injury-time, to ensure the Terriers couldn’t break away and mount a late attack.

“I think that’s what we’ve got to do, to grind points out at the end of games, to make tactical fouls,” he added.

“That’s something that we need to do throughout the season, everyone needs to do that - it happens!”

The academy product replaced Kieran Dowell in the 75th minute and was initially sent to the left wing by Daniel Farke, staying forward in support of Teemu Pukki as much as possible, a position where much of his Premier League experience was gained as a substitute last season.

He charged forward to receive Pukki’s pass unmarked in the box and blasted into the roof of the net, after helping the Finn press the hosts’ back-line.

“I’m very thankful that he (Farke) does trust me to put me out in that wide role,” Idah continued. “It’s obviously better for me that I can play in a variety of positions, to get more game time in another position is good but obviously moving to the striker position is also good.

“I’m just delighted to get on the pitch to be honest.”

The youngster also vowed that City won’t be getting carried away with their winning start, ahead of Saturday’s home game against a stubborn Preston squad.

The Irishman concluded: “Of course everybody wants to go back to the Premier League but we’ll take it steady, game by game, and hopefully we get more wins and keep going.”
