Norwich City are tracking Cork City attacking midfielder Kieran Sadlier as the former West Ham trainee continues to impress for the Irish champions.

The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals in 23 games for the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Premier Division leaders so far this season – including one from inside his own penalty area.

The Canaries are understood to have been impressed with the England-born former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, with the Irish Sun reporting that Sadlier is being monitored by City scouts.

After coming through the ranks at Cambridge United, Sadlier moved to West Ham but failed to make the grade and went on to have short stints at St Mirren, Peterborough and Halifax.

He found his feet last year with Sligo Rovers in Ireland, where eight goals in 21 games earned a move to Cork in July, where his success continued – helping to seal the title and scoring the winning shootout penalty in the FAI Cup final.

Sadlier’s goal at the end of last month went viral online, smashing home from around 80 yards with Cork leading St Patrick’s 2-1, after the hosts’ keeper had gone forward for a late corner, to seal a 3-1 success in style.

The attacker has a Champions League date to look forward to in a couple of weeks, against Legia Warsaw in the first qualifying round, so City would have the opportunity to see how he performs against higher level opponents.

Talking about Sadlier’s potential earlier this year, Cork manager Graham Caulfield said: “He’s come down to Cork halfway into the season and saw what being at a club like ours was like.

“There is a lot of pressure on you and you take a bit of stick if you don’t perform. The guy has phenomenal talent, he is probably the most talented player in the league because his skill levels are incredible.”

Cork signed Sadlier following the sale of striker Sean Maguire to Championship side Preston, who went on to score 10 goals in 24 games last season to earn a new long-term contract.

Ireland is an area Norwich are believed to be targeting, having signed highly-rated Republic U18 striker Adam Idah from Cork side College Corinthians last summer, who impressed during his first season with club’s academy set-up.
