Norwich City have confirmed the signing of young keeper Archie Mair from Aberdeen but Partick Thistle appear to be playing hardball in negotiations for winger Aidan Fitzpatrick.

Motherwell midfield star David Turnbull had talks with the Canaries last week but seemingly saw more chances of game time with Scottish champions Celtic and sealed a £3.25m switch after a 16-goal season.

City's scouts are clearly active north of the border though as two players have been identified to join the development squad ahead of next season, Partick winger Fitzpatrick and Aberdeen's promising goalkeeper Mair.

Norwich and Rangers were both strongly linked to Fitzpatrick in January, with the Canaries reported to have had a package worth around £400,000 rejected.

The 18-year-old wide man scored seven goals in 30 games in all competitions last season, helping Partick to finish mid-table in the Scottish Championship.

Thistle boss Stephen Caldwell said of the rejected bid in January: "There is little doubt in my mind that Aidan will, at some point in his career, move on and potentially play at the very highest level.

"However, I would like to make it clear it would take an extraordinary bid for the club to even contemplate it."

The Daily Record reported on Monday evening Norwich have failed with their latest bid, in the region of £300,000, with the Jags refusing to budge on their valuation of Fitzpatrick.

Scotland U19 keeper Mair was linked to City last month and the 18-year-old has now signed a long-term contract with Norwich, with one of City's current U23 keepers Jon McCracken rejecting a contract offer and reportedly interesting Newcastle, Blackburn and Hibs.

The arrival of Mair is set to allow Aston Oxborough out for his first taste of loan experience, with McCracken's future unclear and local lad Billy Johnson the other U23 keeper already on the books.

A statement on Aberdeen's website said: "Aberdeen FC can confirm this morning that Archie Mair has left Pittodrie.

"The goalkeeper, who has been at the club for the past two years since graduating from the AFC Youth Academy, has joined English Premier League side Norwich City.

"Last season the 18-year-old made nine appearances for the Reserve team, as well as playing for the U18s in the Club Academy Scotland League. Archie has played at U16, U17, U18 and U19 age groups for Scotland.

"Everyone at AFC wishes Archie well for the future."

Norwich intend to improve their U23 squad this summer and last week signed England U18 midfielder Dan Adshead from Rochdale in a deal reportedly worth around £300,000.
