Birmingham City are reportedly interested in giving Wes Hoolahan another Championship chance when his contract expires at Norwich City this summer.

The Irish Sun have put the Blues forward as the first English club to be linked with the former Republic of Ireland international, who turns 36 next month.

That follows Monday’s announcement that the Canaries icon will not be getting a new contract this summer, bringing an end to a decade as a fans’ favourite at Carrow Road.

The report adds that Hoolahan is not interested in a return to the League or Ireland, where he won the title with Shelbourne in 2002, 2003 and 2004 as a youngster, yet as he feels capable of still playing at a higher level.

However, it is understood that the playmaker is interested in exploring the possibility of a move to the MLS in the USA or the A League in Australia.

The creative midfielder has made 351 appearances and scored 53 goals since joining from Blackpool for around £250,000 in 2008 but has been on the fringes of Daniel Farke’s starting XI this season.

Hoolahan has made 33 appearances but only 16 of those were starts, with one goal and two assists to his name.

Birmingham are on the verge of safety under Garry Monk, five points clear of the relegation zone with two games remaining.
