Norwich City transfer rumours: Rangers plot Steven Naismith swoop

PUBLISHED: 10:31 04 May 2017 | UPDATED: 10:38 04 May 2017

Rangers will offer Steven Naismith an escape route from Norwich City this summer.

The Canaries are reportedly weighing up whether to sanction Naismith’s exit as part of a bid to trim the wage bill at Carrow Road over the summer.

Sporting director Stuart Webber has already confirmed seven senior players will leave when their current contracts expire but Naismith has two years left on a lucrative deal when he moved from Everton in January 2016.

The Scottish Daily Express report on Thursday the former Gers’ attacker is keen to return to Ibrox and link up with Pedro Caixinha’s squad.

Naismith would have to take a major wage cut to re-join the club he left on a free transfer in 2012 after Rangers went into administration.

The Scottish international would also have to thrash out a deal with Norwich in terms of a pay-off for the remaining two years of his current Carrow Road contract.

The 30-year-old won three SPL titles, one Scottish FA Cup and two Scottish League Cups during a successful five-year stint in Glasgow before moving to Everton.

Naismith has scored seven goals in 32 appearances for Norwich this season but will miss Sunday’s Championship finale against QPR after being sent-off at Leeds.
