Norwich City have knocked back an £8m enquiry for Jacob Murphy from Premier League new boys Newcastle United.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday afternoon that City have made it clear they are not interested in offloading the highly-rated England Under-21 international, who has been touted with a top flight switch this summer.
Rafa Benitez is a big admirer of the 22-year-old, who enjoyed a stellar breakthrough season for the Canaries that culminated in a key role in the Young Lions’ run to the semi-finals of the recent European Championships in Poland.
Murphy signed a new, longer term Carrow Road deal last season keeping him at his boyhood club until at least 2021 but that has not stopped the wide player being routinely tipped for a big-money Premier League exit.
Southampton, Everton and Crystal Palace have also been linked in recent months but Murphy, along with the likes of his twin Josh, James Maddison and Alex Pritchard are seen as key figures in Daniel Farke’s new era.
