Jonny Howson is Leeds United's prime summer target.

The Yorkshire-bred midfielder could be set for an emotional return to Elland Road this summer, with Team Talk reporting on Wednesday afternoon Leeds will launch a £4m close-season raid.

The club’s co-owner Andrea Radrizzani is in the process of gaining full control and is likely to sanction a major summer spend to equip Leeds for a tilt at Championship promotion.

Howson still has two years left on his existing Carrow Road deal but new sporting director Stuart Webber has made it clear City will have to sell players to attract reinforcements.

Team Talk claim Premier League duo Brighton and Burnley have both expressed an interest to take the 28-year-old to the top flight, but Howson - who became Leeds’ youngest captain since Billy Bremner at the age of 19 - would favour a return to his spirtual home.

Howson has established himself as a key figure at Carrow Road since moving south in January 2012. The central midfielder was player-of-the-season in 2016 and brought up 150 league appearances for the club in the most recent Championship campaign.

The former Leeds trainee has scored 24 goals for the Canaries, none better than his stunning volley in the 5-1 home win over Nottingham Forest in February.
