Michael McGovern is not a target for Hearts' coach Ian Cathro, after the Northern Ireland international had been touted with a return to Scotland.
The Scottish Sun reported on Wednesday that McGovern, who played the second half in Norwich’s 2-2 friendly draw at Stevenage on Tuesday, could be set for a reunion with his international colleague and former City team mate Kyle Lafferty at Tynecastle.
But Cathro later responded to those reports with a flat denial.
McGovern is down the pecking order at Carrow Road, following the arrival of Angus Gunn on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 33-year-old, who has two years left on his existing Norwich deal after moving from Hamilton only last summer, has been widely touted with a close season exit along with the likes of Tony Andreu and Matt Jarvis.
Meanwhile, Italian football website Tuttosport, claim City have made an enquiry for Torino’s left-sided midfielder Joel Obi. La Liga side Las Palmas and Greek team Thessaloniki have also been linked. The injury-prone Nigerian international has started only 16 games for the Turin club since 2015/16.
Norwich’s head coach Daniel Farke made it clear after last weekend’s Lowestoft friendly win he may be forced to bring in another midfielder to cope with the longer term injury absence of Louis Thompson and the recent departures of Jonny Howson and Graham Dorrans.
