Norman Low made six-footer Reg Foulkes his first signing, from Walsall, in May, 1950, and was rewarded with one of the most reliable centre-halves in City’s history.

Foulkes skippered the Canaries to second, third and fourth in Division Three South in his first three seasons, and was involved in two of their finest FA Cup triumphs, against Liverpool in 1951 and at Arsenal in 1954. He scored six times in his first season for City.

After leaving Norwich in 1956, Foulkes moved to Wisbech Town to become player-manager at the age of 33 and after one season moved to King’s Lynn, where he went on to make 92 appearances scoring twice. He went on to coach Norwich CEYMS and in the early 60s became involved with Norwich City Reserves before returning to Shrewsbury to qualify as an accountant ahead of retiring.

Foulkes died in November 2014 at the age of 91.
