Ninth in City’s all-time scorers list and one of just a handful of players to score five goals in a game for the Canaries, winger Eyre proved a consistent player during five seasons in Division Three South.

Signed after impressing for the RAF overseas, Eyre scored his five-goal haul during a 7-2 thrashing of Brighton at Carrow Road in November 1946, in an FA Cup first round tie just months after joining the club.

Known for his pace and a powerful shot, he scored 15 in 40 games during 1947-48 and 14 in 34 during 1950-51 before joining Division Three South rivals Bournemouth early the following season.

Finished his career in non-league, briefly with Chelmsford City and then boyhood club Bilsthorpe Colliery in Nottinghamshire, before returning to Norfolk to work for Colman’s until retirement – passing away in Norwich in November 1991 aged 69.
