Norwich City top 100 appearances: Colin Suggett (44)
243 appearances/29 goals
Colin Suggett arrived at Norwich City in a £70,000 deal from Sunderland.
Brought in as a traditional winger he was charged with the responsibility of providing decent service for striker David Cross.
Suggett made his debut in a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle but his first goal in City’s colours arrived at exactly the right moment for then manager Ron Saunders in a relegation shoot-out with Crystal Palace.
After falling behind to a Don Rogers penalty, Suggett struck the all important equaliser before laying on the winner for Dave Stringer. It proved to be the goal that kept Norwich in the top flight.
The following season after Saunders’ departure John Bond converted Suggett into a midfielder where his eye for a pass was properly exploited. He also chipped in with his fair share of goals, most notably a 30-yard effort against Aston Villa during City’s 1974-75 promotion campaign when Suggett also picked up player of the season.
