Norwich City are interested in signing Holstein Kiel striker Marvin Ducksch.

The 24-year-old forward, who is the leading goalscorer in Bundesliga II, has been identified as the man to help solve the Canaries’ goalscoring problems.

Head coach Daniel Farke admitted that a striker is his top priority this summer and it is understood he wants Ducksch to spearhead his frontline next season.

Ducksch has become one of the most sought after strikers outside the German top flight and there is likely to be plenty of interest in the player, who has just a year left on his contract at parent club St Pauli.

Ducksch started his career at Borussia Dortmund’s academy and worked under Farke during the City head coach’s time at the German giants. It is hoped that relationship might be City’s trump card in warding off interest from other clubs.

Ducksch was very highly thought of at Dortmund as a youngster and made six first team appearances under then manager Jurgen Klopp. He joined SC Paderborn on loan for the 2014/15 season before signing for St Pauli in a permanent deal in the summer of 2016.

However, it is a loan spell at Holstein Kiel that has been the making of the striker.

He joined the Schleswig Holstein side in January 2017 and his goals helped propel them to German football’s second tier.

His loan there was extended last summer and he has gone on to be a revelation in Bundesliga II, plundering 18 goals in 33 appearances.

With doubts over Nelson Oliveira’s long term future at City, Ducksch, who attracted interest from Leeds last season, could be a suitable replacement.

After a 14th-placed finish in the Championship, Farke is under no illusions what his City side need to take a big step forward next season.

“It is obvious what we need to bring in - we need goals,” he said. “I have mentioned it before. We were position three in the table for creating chances and 24 in taking them.”
