Norwich City will travel to Premier League giants Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

This evening’s draw lined up a trip to the Gunners’ 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium, where City have played just four times previously, losing 1-0 in their last visit, in the top flight in April 2016.

The first visit was in 2013, when a late Steve Morrison strike earned a dramatic 3-3 draw, but the other visits finished in 3-1 and 4-1 defeats.

The teams last met in the League Cup in the third round in 1993, when Norwich held the north London side to a 1-1 draw at Highbury before losing 3-0 at Carrow Road.

The round four ties are due to be played in the week commencing Monday, October 23. For City that will follow the East Anglian Derby at Ipswich on Sunday, October 22 and will be ahead of a home clash with Derby County the following Saturday.

Head coach Daniel Farke, speaking to City’s website, said: ““Being away to Arsenal, it’s probably the toughest draw we could have got.

“It’s a game for us to look forward to. We will go into it giving our best and trying everything we can to get through.”

Farke’s side booked their place in the fourth round with a 3-1 win away to Championship rivals Brentford on Tuesday night.

This season’s competition started in the first round for Norwich for the first time since 2010, beating lower league sides at home in the opening rounds, winning 3-2 against League Two side Swindon and then League One promotion hopefuls Charlton 4-1 in the second round.

Arsenal came into the competition in the third round and beat League One side Doncaster Rovers 1-0 at the Emirates this evening, thanks to a goal from Theo Walcott, with Norwich loanee Harry Toffolo an unused substitute for the visitors.

Arsene Wenger’s side are scheduled to travel to Everton on Sunday, October 22, before hosting Swansea the following Saturday – making it likely that the tie will be played on Wednesday, October 25.

The Canaries have now reached the fourth round in five of the last six seasons, losing on penalties at Leeds and Everton to miss out on a place in the last eight in the past two campaigns.

City won the League Cup in 1962 and 1985 and have reached the quarter-finals on four occasions since that last final success at Wembley, beating Sunderland 1-0.
