Rangers will have to up the ante if they want to prise Graham Dorrans out of Norwich City after tabling a derisory offer believed to be under £500,000.

Dorrans has been widely touted with a close-season move to his boyhood club, with fevered speculation north of the border on Wednesday the Ibrox outfit had finally tempted City with a £1.3m offer, plus add ons.

Those figures are well wide of the mark and the Glasgow giants have yet to get anywhere near the Canaries’ seven-figure valuation for the Scottish international.

Dorrans has two years left on his current Carrow Road deal, after extending his contract only last summer, but Norwich’s top brass is understood to be unwilling to offload the midfielder on the cheap.

The 30-year-old returned to pre-season training on Monday, along with the majority of Daniel Farke’s squad, and is expected to travel to Ireland for the club’s upcoming week-long training camp.

City have made it clear they must generate funds this summer to help bolster the German’s playing roster for the new Championship campaign, and the likes of Dorrans and fellow midfielder Jonny Howson have been strongly tipped to depart.

But sporting director Stuart Webber will only sanction sales on the club’s terms, with Declan Rudd poised to complete a move to Preston on July 1 for an undisclosed fee.

Dorrans spent his youth on the terraces at Ibrox and according to the Scottish media is keen to seal an emotional return to Rangers.

The former West Brom midfielder scored six goals in 24 appearances last season during an injury-hit campaign that saw him suffer knee ligament damage at Reading on Boxing Day before damaging his ankle shortly after his return at Aston Villa in April.

City team mate and former Rangers star Steven Naismith admitted earlier this week his compatriot could face a major career decision if the clubs can thrash out a deal.

“It’s a big call for him but first of all the clubs need to agree,” he said, speaking to BBC Scotland. “It’s not as straight-forward as saying, ‘Rangers or Norwich’ because everything needs to be right for him and his family.

“It’s a tough one for him. He’d be a massive addition to Rangers. He has real quality. I hope he stays.”
