Norwich City manager Alex Neil confirmed on Friday afternoon former Blackburn keeper Jake Kean is firmly in his sights.

Kean has been in Norfolk this week and the 24-year-old is set to provide back-up to John Ruddy and Declan Rudd after officially cutting his ties with Rovers earlier in the day.

Neil brought in Robbie Brady and Andre Wisdom on loan from Liverpool this week and the City boss is targeting two new faces ahead of the Premier League kick-off.

The Scot has been touted with a new striker and a central defender, but Neil stressed he will only make moves in that direction if he can improve his squad.

“I think I have competition there now but you never know. If somebody crops up that I think can improve the squad then I am certainly open to having a look at that,” he said. “It isn’t that I’m not sure (about those positions), it’s that I won’t add another number that is not better or different from what I have got. He either has to be different or better. To be honest, for us, it is difficult to find better than what we have got. We have some good players.

“We are still looking for more. We are actively looking to attract other top players and hopefully by the time business is done we might have another one or two in or we might have none, depending on how it goes.

“Jake was someone we were interested in but because of his contract situation at Blackburn we couldn’t comment on that. It wouldn’t have been fair to the lad but now that is sorted out hopefully something can be done. Potentially he is one we can bring in soon.”

Norwich wrap up their pre-season preparations on Saturday against Brentford at Carrow Road. Neil confirmed City supporters will get their first close-up look at Brady and Wisdom. Cameron Jerome is back after a foot injury, but Martin Olsson (shoulder) and Kyle Lafferty (knee) miss out.

“I would imagine both of the new lads will get some game-time at some stage during the game,” said Neil. “Cameron will be in the squad. He has been training since Tuesday. Kyle has a tweak in his knee so he is not quite right at the moment. He is undergoing treatment and has actively started to undergo some rehab work, but he has not had enough game-time to be under consideration for the start of the season, which is a shame for the lad because he would have played at Hitchin but he tweaked it the day before and it swelled up overnight.

“Martin is making very good progress. He is pain-free right now and doing his fitness. The next bit is to incorporate him into the group so we can get some contact work on his shoulder. In terms of his fitness stuff he is moving freely but what we don’t want is for him to get a bang on it when he is not quite fully healed. Potentially he might start to train next week. Robbie can step in there and him and Harry are probably the two left-back options.”
