Promotion is the aim but Norwich City will be desperate to maintain their grip on the East Anglian derby against Championship rivals Ipswich Town.
Eight years, eight games and counting since the Blues last enjoyed the upper hand in this bitter rivalry. Town threatened to end that wretched run when Jonas Knudsen bundled home from close range in February’s fraught Carrow Road duel, but England Under-21 starlet Jacob Murphy eased frayed nerves in the home ranks with a thumping low finish past the previously unbeatable Bartosz Bialkowski to earn a 1-1 draw.
City head to Portman Road on Saturday October 21 before Town visit Carrow Road on Saturday February 17 2018 - albeit both fixtures could be subject to change.
Town will be desperate to try and halt the yellow and green tide in this neighbourly dust-up, with City getting the upper hand en route to promotion in both 2011 and 2015.
Who will ever forget Grant Holt’s laughing cavalier act at Portman Road in a 5-1 hammering that helped propel Paul Lambert’s warriors over the finish line. Arguably that was topped by a delicious aggregate play-off success in 2015 on the way to a Wembley triumph over Middlesbrough. Those scenes at the final whistle in the second leg in a friendly pitch invasion from the Norwich hordes still linger in the memory.
Now the baton will pass to Daniel Farke’s collective to maintain City’s hegemony.
