Grant Holt's request for a move from Norwich City is not motivated by money, his agent has insisted.

The three-times player of the season stunned supporters at the end of last week by asking for a transfer – a request that was swiftly rejected by the Canaries.

City skipper Holt and his representative, Lee Payne, were understood to be in talks with chief executive David McNally at Carrow Road last night.

Neither side made any comment on the outcome of that 4pm meeting, but Payne said earlier in the day that 31-year-old Holt was unhappy with 'some things that have gone on that we feel are not right' that they wanted to resolve.

He said: 'It's not all about money. Obviously money comes into the scenario – it always does in football and I think players like to feel like they are being valued and being respected.

'There are a couple of issues Grant is not happy with and I think he feels that needs resolving.

'I felt it was only fair to speak up and say something because I've heard some comments that people have been making and I think it's very unfair when you are throwing out accusations and speculating on things when you don't know what's going on.

'You never know what's going on in someone's heart and in someone's mind. He is a fantastic professional, he doesn't make decisions like that on a whim.'

Holt signed a new three-year deal with the Canaries just over a year ago, which his agent later said he was 'overjoyed' with.

Payne was not available for comment last night but earlier told BBC Radio Norfolk: 'Why would he not want to stay? His family is here. He's had a tremendous time at the club, he is adored by lots of the fans.

'But things have to be done correctly and professionally and Grant just feels over the last couple of months some comments have been made and things have been said which have been very unfair. And if they ever come out in the wash, I'm sure everybody will understand why he did what he did.'

Holt, meanwhile, has been named in the City squad for Adam Drury's testimonial match against Celtic at Carrow Road tonight (7.45pm).

The five senior players on international duty in the next few days are not included, but returning loan players George Francomb and Korey Smith could get a rare Carrow Road outing.
