Yet another of Norwich City’s title-winning stars has signed a new contract, with midfielder Tom Trybull the latest to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

The 26-year-old German becomes the 13th player to sign a new deal with the Canaries since the end of last season, having played an important role for Daniel Farke's team during the Championship triumph of the last campaign.

He was already under contract until 2021, with the option for a further 12 months, but that has been extended until 2022 with the option for a further year remaining.

Trybull said: "I'm feeling very good and happy to sign a new deal, I really like living here and I love to play for this special club as there are so many positive things about Norwich.

"When I first came to the club, it was all very new to me and my wife as it was a new country and a different experience.

"But my team-mates made it easy for me to fit in the squad and the supporters have helped me and my family to feel comfortable in the city and stadium so it was clear to us that we wanted to stay.

"The club and especially the head coach (Farke) and Stuart (Webber) have given me so much and I just want to give back to them."

Trybull was signed on a free transfer after a successful trial in the summer of 2017 after getting his career back on track in the Dutch top flight during 2016-17 with Den Haag.

The Hansa Rostock youth product moved to Werder Bremen as a youngster and made his Bundesliga debut at 18 years old, coming through the Germany youth system and earning four U20 caps for his country.

The tenacious and intelligent midfielder lost his way though and struggled for regular game time with St Pauli and Greuther Furth in the German second tier, partly due to injuries, which led to his Den Haag spell.

Under Farke's guidance Trybull regained his confidence however and scored three goals in 24 games for Norwich during 2017-18, and signed a new contract within six months, only for an ankle ligament injury to ruin the second half of his season.

He also largely played second fiddle to the battle-hardened Alex Tettey in the defensive midfield role during the first half of last season but eventually his mixture of classy passing and tough tackling saw him come to the fore, making 36 appearances in total and scoring twice.

Speaking to City's official website, Trybull added: "It was a huge season last year and it was very special for me and the squad to get promoted to the Premier League.

"To be a part of the best league in the world was a dream for sure, I didn't expect that it would happen so quick so I can't wait for the new challenges ahead.

"The club is building a philosophy which we should all be proud of together. The fans have a massive impact on the team and what the club is trying to achieve and we couldn't have reached what we did last season without our great supporters.

"I just hope that we can stick together in the upcoming year and years by staying as one big family."

Trybull had also formed an effective defensive shield in partnership with Tettey in his first season and both are expected to have important roles as City contend with the challenges of the Premier League.

The contract announcement is the third of the week from the Canaries, following on from Christoph Zimmermann and Emi Buendia to complete the hat-trick.

Teemu Pukki, Timm Klose, Marco Stiepermann, Onel Hernandez, Tim Krul, Ben Godfrey, Kenny McLean, Todd Cantwell, Adam Idah and Carlton Morris have all agreed new deals since last season as well as sporting director Stuart Webber looks to keep the successful squad together.

Reports suggest that Mario Vrancic and Max Aarons will also follow suit, with Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons having also signed new long-term contracts during last season.

As things stand the first-team players due to be out of contract at the end of 2019-20 are Tettey, Vrancic, James Husband, Nelson Oliveira, Aston Oxborough and Sean Raggett, with the latter two having options for another year.
