Two games at Carrow Road in four days and what a massive difference in level of commitment and performances from Norwich City.

Last Saturday Norwich supporters would have left disappointed after the 1-0 defeat to Manchester Utd, but their disappointment and frustrations would have been more to do with United’s winning goal and City failing to convert good goalscoring opportunities.

No-one could complain about the level of the lads’ performances, which is what’s needed if they are to dig themselves out of the predicament that they find themselves in right now.

I felt for Dean and the lads last weekend. I say it quite often that sometimes you don’t get what you deserve in football and the game against United was one of those occasions.

For what it’s worth I do think that Darren England got the penalty decision spot on when Max Aarons looked to have dragged Ronaldo down with 15 minutes to go.

As a defender once you’ve let the forward get the wrong side of you then you’ve got a massive problem. Ronaldo was goal side of Max, who then seemed to tug on the United superstar’s shoulder and that was enough for someone as experienced as he is to go down. Maybe it’s soft, but for me it was a penalty, sadly.

As I said earlier if you’re going to lose then that’s the way to go about it, giving it your all and not leaving anything out there on the pitch.

That wasn’t how Norwich lost on Tuesday night against Aston Villa. That was simply not acceptable. There were plenty of fireworks at Carrow Road before the Villa games, sadly there was none on the pitch from a Norwich point of view.

The first half was as poor as I’ve seen this season. Villa absolutely bossed that first half and the lads simply weren’t at the races. They were miles off the pace of the game and I don’t buy the excuses that I heard from people about injuries and covid.

If you’re fit and out there, it doesn’t stop you from at least putting in a shift and showing that you care.

I’m not quite sure what’s going on with Todd Cantwell at the minute but he’s a shadow of the player he was a couple of seasons ago.

He needs to get back to the Todd that was loving his football when he went on loan to Fortuna Sittard back in the 2017-18 season and the young lad who loved every minute playing in the Premier League two seasons ago.

At the minute he looks like the last place he wants to be is out on the pitch playing for Norwich City.

Todd divides opinion and I get that. However, I do think he’s taken some unwarranted stick since he broke into the first team which I’ve said before is very unfair in my opinion.

He’s still only 23. A lot has happened and been thrown at him in the last two or three years and that’s all down to one thing - his performances for Norwich City.

Whether his future is with his boyhood club or if he moves elsewhere in January, he needs to knuckle down, roll his sleeves up and listen to good people who want to help him get him back on track and kickstart his career once again.

As I write my column I’ve no idea if the game at the London Stadium will go ahead.

I was supposed to be working at Loftus Road tomorrow but QPR’s game v Russell Martin’s Swansea was called off on Tuesday night because of QPR’s problems with covid.

Looking back maybe the Villa game Thursday night should have been called off.

After all Norwich’s last two opponents have had games postponed because of issues with covid.

It does seem to me to be one one rule for the big boys and another rule for little old Norwich.
