Liverpool star Sadio Mane could be available to face Norwich City on the opening night of the new Premier League season, despite only completing international duty on Friday.

Pre-season has been hampered by unavailable players for the European champions so far, with Mane in the Senegal team beaten in the Africa Cup of Nations final by Algeria on Friday.

Mo Salah and Naby Keita were also in action at the Afcon, while Allison and Roberto Firmino won the Copa America with Brazil at the start of this month.

It's left manager Jurgen Klopp without several of his top players during a busy pre-season schedule, losing twice in the USA over the weekend, 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund and 2-1 to Sevilla.

A game against Sporting Lisbon follows in New York on Thursday, ahead of a friendly against Napoli in Edinburgh on Sunday and against Lyon in Switzerland next Wednesday.

It has forced the Reds to play plenty of youngsters so far, ahead of the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday, August 4 - before welcoming Norwich to Anfield on Friday, August 9 (8pm).

Klopp has revealed Mane will have a two-week break and return to full training after the Manchester City game.

"He is in good shape," the German told Liverpoolfc.com. "Obviously they had a celebration in Senegal and I'm happy about that because it showed that they respect the competition and saw the second place as a success, which is nice.

"He is now on holiday, not the longest one - he will be back on August 5, after the Manchester City game. That means he'll have two weeks.

"There is four or five days to prepare for Norwich, 10 days for Chelsea (in the UEFA Super Cup)."
