Kenny McLean’s frustrating start to his Norwich City career has continued, after the Scotland midfielder had surgery to finally sort his ankle injury.

The 26-year-old signing from Aberdeen, who remained on loan at the Dons for the second half of last season, hasn’t appeared since playing the second half of City’s opening Carabao Cup home win over Stevenage on August 14.

McLean came on at the interval in that game – but a robust challenge swiftly caused the Scot issues and while he made it to full time, he has since admitted he may have been better leaving the pitch.

City had hoped the ligament damage would heal with time and ensure McLean’s return during September – however the situation never fully resolved itself, leading to surgery earlier this week.

McLean tweeted: “On the mend! No photo confirmation of me in a gown full of morphine after it so I get it if you don’t believe me.”

The Scot is expected to be out of action until the following international break in five weeks time.
