Striker Oli Johnson believes he is furthering his football education with Yeovil after scoring his third goal for the club at the weekend.

His immaculate lob gave the Glovers a vital 1-0 League One win at Tranmere – and he said his game was developing with every appearance.

Johnson, on loan to the West Country club until April 16, has been playing largely as a second striker behind Andy Williams.

He said: “Goals are what it is all about for strikers. It was heavy on the legs against Tranmere and was not a pretty game of football but sometimes you have got to dig in with these type of games.

“I am definitely learning a new discipline and side to my game. It is something that I have had to do as football is not always about the pretty side of things, getting the ball down and playing it.

“I do prefer that side of the game but this is part of my education, really. I am learning to drop deeper and help the midfield, which I need to do. It is nice to know that I can settle now and all I am thinking about is playing for Yeovil. I have no thoughts of going back to Norwich, so I can focus on playing, which is good.”

Johnson, 23, scored on Saturday when Tranmere and ex-City goalkeeper Tony Warner’s headed clearance was deflected into his path. He waited for the ball to drop and lobbed the stranded ’keeper.

He told the Western Gazette: “It was not a bad finish either. It is just pure instinct in those sorts of situations. I could have taken a touch and tried to play in another player but it was just instinct.

“I was not sure if it was going to bounce and go over the crossbar or if a defender was going to get back for it. I was not sure until it hit the back of the net.

“It is up there with the best. I have scored some decent goals but it is definitely up there and is definitely one of the most important I have scored as well.

“This is the first string of games I have had in a while so I think I am still finding my feet and match fitness. But I have scored a few goals now and I do not think it is a bad return.”
