The speedy Cuban winger returned from a month out with a hamstring injury during the Canaries' 0-0 draw at play-off chasing Preston on Saturday.

Hernandez had just started to find form, excelling during a 3-2 home win over Reading last month, before his injury stopped his progress. The January signing is ready for action against Leeds tomorrow though.

'I'm fit, it was very bad the last four weeks for me with my injury,' he said. 'But I am ready to go further on and recover but I am feeling fit.'

That was put to the test yesterday when the 25-year-old joined Christoph Zimmermann and Louis Thompson for some boxing training at Pro Box Norwich.

The trio were showing their support for Norwich heavyweight Sam Sexton ahead of his televised British title defence against Hughie Fury on May 12, watching the champion train before getting some tips from the big man as they were put through their paces.

Hernandez, born in Cuba before his family moved to Germany as a youngster, looked more than comfortable with a pair of boxing gloves on and was relishing the pad work.

'The kids in Cuba come off the street and the first thing they do is fighting,' the January signing continued, with his English improving rapidly. 'For me too it was a very good experience, I liked it very much to see how they train – the champ, he is a beast!

'I've never done it before. In the street, you know, with a few (playful) punches with the other guys but this is a little bit different. But I felt good and I liked it very much.'

The attacker has made 10 appearances for City since his joining from Eintracht Braunschweig for a reported £1.7million.

'I have had a good experience here so far,' he added. 'When I go into the city people come and speak to me, want a photo with me. And the players I like a lot, James Maddison is one of my best buddies!

'I like the stadium, the history of the club and the fans, it's been a very good experience for me so far. I will give my all for my team-mates and the club and for next season we shall see how it goes.'
